LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS - ELEMENT 1: CREATING
Candidates create instructional design specifications based on learning principles and effective practices.
Artifact: Research Proposal using the TPACK Model
Description:
GDIT 706: Developing a Learning Environment Using IT, Spring 2014
The goal of this project was to use the TPCK model, locate and describe the application of the model to a curriculum in my discipline. Then, I was to answer the questions, “How would you research this curriculum with this model?” Lastly, I was to describe 2-3 pieces of literature that I could use, with research questions and methodology to use. This artifact demonstrates my ability to create an online environment using specifics from the TPACK model in supporting the best instructional technologies to use in the inclusive classroom.

Reflection:
After reading this particular standard and reflecting on how I would interpret it, I immediately thought of the "Seven Principles" developed by Arthur W. Checkering and Stephen C. Ehrmannd (1996). The principles were further developed at the Education Technology Center at the Metropolitan State University of Denver. The focus is on effective instruction for adult learners concerning the use of technology. These principles place importance on teacher-student and student-student interaction, active learning, timely feedback, flexibly with tasks, high expectations, and respect for cultural and diverse learning differences. I gained a considerable amount of knowledge of implementing such principles when completing this proposal, specially how to incorporate the TPACK model into professional development curriculum. Personally, I was able to further my research on designing and implementing instruction in online environments based on adult learning theories and best practices inclusive classrooms and how assistive technology can be incorporated in order to work with students with disabilities. Professionally, I was able to prove my reasearch abilities and follow appropriate APA guidelines when preparing a proposal. I also learned how to appropriately apply critical feedback towards my growth in reasearch and curriculum design. Students can be impacted by my knowledge of how to apply the TPACK model into curriculum using best practices in order to create a learning environment that is more learner-centered. Students will be able to add that technology piece to their learning through hands-on exploration in various content areas.
