CONTENT PEDAGOGY - ELEMENT 4: MANAGEMENT
Candidates will manage appropriate technological processes and resources to provide supportive learning communities, create flexible and diverse learning environments, and develop and demonstrate content pedagogy.
Artifact: Online Course through CourseSite
Description:
GDIT 705: Courseware Design, Fall 2013
I created an online learning community using CourseSites for my learning modules. The goal of the community was to provide training for educators in the elementary setting to learn and implement the class management system Class Dojo into their daily routine. The completion of this task emphasized the design and development of online recourses (CourseSite, ClassDojo, YouTube tutorials) using theory-based instruction and the use of new multimedia to identify current and future research in eLearning.

Reflection:
Knowing the most relevant instructional design models, having the right tools, and having a team of skilled people are crucial to success, but so is a repertoire of management skills. As systems thinking became more pervasive, especially within the field of educational technology, the systems approach became the dominant paradigm for thinking about management processes in instructional development and technology-based learning systems (Association for Educational Communications and Technology, 1977). According to Donaldson et. al (2008), there are of four directions of management activities involved in educational technology: managing projects, managing resources, managing the performance of people, or managing programs (Januszewski & Molenda, 2008). This systematic way of planning, implementing, and controlling a supportive learning environment was applied with my first time using CourseSite. I found it extremely easy to use, mostly due to it following the Blackboard format. I found it very user friendly and a valueable tool for online learning. Personally, I was able to grow in my understanding of best practices in educational technology management by creating an online learning environment with a leaner-centered approach to instruction. Professionally, I was able to apply what I have learned about the adult learning theory and Knowles's 5 assumptions of adult learners in order to allow for open communication (Blogs, Discussion Boards, Surveys) and a chance to exchange and share ideas based on similar interest. This impacts students in several ways Students participating in an online environment, such as CourseSites, will be able to communicate with peers in other locations, learn at their pace, and engage in creative instructional tasks, and learn how to interact in a diverse learning environment.
