PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS - ELEMENT 3: REFLECTION ON PRACTICE
Candidates analyze and interpret data and artifacts and reflect on the effectiveness of the design, development and implementation of technology-rich instruction and learning.
Artifact: Class Facilitation on Global Education
Description:
GDIT 711: Distances Learning and Global Leadership Seminar, Spring 2015
The goal of this facilitation was to describe major theoretical perspectives of distance education and eLearning, identify major trends in eLearning, describe effective strategies for working in the field of global eLearning with special attention given to globalization, evaluate cultural awareness in global eLearning from a critical perspective, compare and contrast educational technologies used in eLearning, demonstrate proficiency as an online learner and instructor through real-life global eLearning participation and collaboration, and design theory-supported alternatives to the discovered eLearning issues. I chose to explore the topic of physical education and it's effect on global health. I research current technologies related to physical education, MOOCs currently focusing on physical education and global health, that it's impact on education in a global society.

Reflection:
This artifact demonstrates my ability to analyze and interpret data and artifacts and reflects on the effectiveness of the design, development and implementation of technology-rich instruction and learning. Before talking role of leadership in an instructional technology-learning environment, history of instructional media and design should be considered. I designed my presentation based on this approach. It was a challenging assignment for me, because we were asked to research instructional design on a global scale , and create a presentation based on our research with a combination theoretical perspectives based on view of leaders in the field of instructional technology. This artifact provided me with the opportunity to analyze methods of instructional design (MOOCs and physical education) in eLearning on a global scale, which is a domain I have previously not much explored. Personally, I was able to grow in my knowledge of how technology can be integrated into physical education through distance education. I was also able to research MOOCs on physical education and analyze how distance education designs online environments that are appropriate for implementing the concepts taught in physical education. Technology is not what I would immediately think of what I hear "physical education", but this artifact allowed me to explore online programs such as MyFitnessPal, and the Let'sMove initiative by Michelle Obama and determine how their design implemented appropriate content associated with physical education on a global scale. Professionally, I was able to use pre-facititation class dicussion on global health to help facilitate my discussion and apply the issues, concerns, and knowledge of my participants in my facilitation. Students are impacted by allowing them the opportunity to use their prior knowledge to help faciliate discussion and lessons so that their questions and personal expriences are the basis for the lesson.
