When I reflect on my experience throughout this doctoral program, I researched quotes on instructional technology to summarize my exact thoughts. I came across a quote from an extremely inspiring educational innovator, John Dewey. He states, “If we teach today was we taught yesterday, we rob our children of tomorrow.” To me, this says it all. Not just in technology, but also in society as a whole, our world is continually changing at a rapid pace. Our children need to be prepared to work in a world that has not been created yet. As educators, we have a responsibility to prepare our students with the 21st century skills they will need in order to be successful in not only today’s fast moving global economy, but tomorrow’s! Instructional technology provides such opportunities by innovating our curriculum and instruction to meet these needs. Instructional technology also provides us educators opportunities to provide our students greater opportunities to take charge or their own learning and become tomorrow’s innovators!
I have grown tremendously throught the completion of this program. Particularly in my knowledge of research methodologies, learning theory, and best practices in the field of instructional technology. This program has provided me with opportunites to faciliate peers in my cohort, reflect on feedback from peers, as well as self-evaluation skills. I feel I have a thorough understanding of not only how best to implement technology in the curriculum and classroom, but I have learned and modeled such technolgoies and curriculum design for online learning environments trough the facilitation opportunities that have been provided by the professors in our program.
This was my first experience with a cohort format for a program of study. I truly felt I would not have been nearly as successful in this program without the support, guidance, and overall fellowship that I recieved from my cohort members. Being able to take the same classes, work on the same projects, and share the same experiences has provided me with an overwhelming sense of team pride and collaboration skills that I will carry on throughout my professional career in higher education. To sum up my thoughts on collaboration I will share this quote by Robert John Meehan, "The most valuable resources that all teachers have is each other. Without collaboration our growth is limited to our own perspectives."
